Nine pin socket issues, advice please

When installing the nine pin socket I have run into an issue. The retaining rink I have doesn't look like the one in the manual picture. Mine seems much thinker, such that the square part of the five lug terminal cannot sit flat once the nut is put on. Am I missing something? Your help is appreciated.

Also, the place for the nut on the other size of the socket isn't wide enough to allow the nut to be treaded

I think you are supposed to install the socket/retainer from the top side of the chassis.

Set the nine pin socket into the nine pin socket hole of the chassis, through the top

Missed that.

I did the exact same thing when I started mine.  Took me a few minutes to figure it out.

I think it means I'm going too fast. I actually decided to take it all apart so I can paint the top first. I will go slower. Just so excited

P.S. I'm leaning toward a red top and black stained box, possible with a slight bevel cut all the way around.

Nine Pin Socket
( ) Set the nine pin socket
into the nine pin socket
hole of the chassis,
through the top. Be sure
to orient the gap in the
circle of pins so that it
faces the volume
potentiometer. Place the
nine pin socket retaining
ring over the socket and
insert a 4-40 x 3/8” screw
through the rear
mounting hole.
( ) Hold the screw in the
hole while you flip the
chassis plate over, and slide a five lug terminal strip over the screw, oriented as shown in the photo.
Secure with a #4 nut. Slip another #4-40 x 1/4” screw through the front hole. Slip a #6 locknut on the
screw from the underside and secure with a #4 nut.


I did not used the stock socket so i can't comment any further.
