Nickel vs M4 with a Nickel Pinstripe

Comparing Robin Hood Parafeeds in my PTG amp. The nickel has a more laid back presentation. The pinstripe has a bit more pop like when a snare drum is hit it just stands out more. I think i have to switch back.

When I upgraded the iron on my SEX 2.0 I went with pinstripes. At the time I couldn't afford full nickel. Based on your observation I'm glad it worked out that way.

Yes the M3/M4 iron will sound more dynamic when pushed hard. On the other hand I think you will find the nickel to have better low level resolution. The pinstripe idea is to get the best of both, as were the cobalt lam transformers Mike made many years ago.

I was very lucky to score a pair of those M4/Cobalt TFA 2004's which Mike built to examine the effects of Cobalt in the center of the coil. My pair have ten slices of the Good Stuff, and this stereo amp Paul Birkeland built for me sounds glorious with its JJ 2A3-40 tubes and CuTf Vcaps.

Cheers, Hank
