My Crack

Just finished my first crack. I ordered a custom topplate, moved the connections to front and back. Building this was a lot of fun. To be honest I couldn't believe it actually worked when first powered it on  ;D. Speedball upgrade to follow...

I discovered an amazing, to me, thing years ago.  A simple pot feels much better with a really BIG knob on it.  This came from my owning a Crown DC 300, it had a cheap volume pot with a 3" diameter knob on it.

BTW, I didn't like the sound of the 300A.  Mine was in the warehouse when they had the fire.  It smelled of smoke inside.

Very cool! I totally dig the uncluttered top plate in the brass color. Is it from Front Panel Express?

Thanks,

Yes the top plate is from frontpanel express. Its anodized aluminum, gold color (template in the tech tools thread).
First I put an led where the logo now is, but it was to bright. And the bottlehead figure looks way better  8)
Only today I realized I forgot to put the rubber feet on!  ::)

I'm still looking for a good volume knob. Any suggestions? The one I ordered was scratched.
And while the bottlehead one is solidly built, it is kind of ugly...  :)

I have to second the vt4c site recommendation. I just received my order from them yesterday and was more than a little impressed! So many products look pretty good in a photo, but when you get them they are much less than you would want.

V4TC stuff does look really nice !  Not to get off topic, but has anyone bought one of the v4tc aluminum chassis?  The look amazing, particularly the AL-Glory-Paladin.  It has really nice machining, lettering, and pre-drilled holes for rcas and the input selector on the front..  It looks like a great contender for a bottlehead project (Quickie?)  !  Any thoughts?

Don't tempt me! Yes the chassis on that site look amazing. All that I can conclude is that so far, I couldn't be more pleased with their other products.

No, the shipment/payment was simple and straightforward. Shipping time was about 2 weeks.

VT4C does rock, I've ordered quite a few things from them. I also recommend Kilo brand knobs in solid aluminum, the quality is very high and there are many different types. Allied Electronics carries them.
