* Psvane 12AT7

This amp just gets you hooked..mildly put.

Nicely done, inside and out! Good choices on the upgrades too :) Are those Kimber speaker cables?

Hi Joel,
Great looking build. I was wondering if you installed the Z-Superior caps during your initial build or swapped them out later?

I was thinking of installing those caps in my own build as the price is reasonable, but I am undecided if I want to put them in at the start or change them out later. I am afraid that if I change them out later and do not hear a difference I will be disappointed that I spent the money. But I am also afraid that if I change them out and do hear a difference I will have wished I had gotten nicer caps! Ignorance is bliss if I put them in from the start.

Again, well done. I cannot wait to start on my own.

That's not something to fear, your money would be spent to gain valuable knowledge.

Good point Paul. I have already admitted the price is moderate, so regardless of the results the value lies in the experience. I am brand new to the quality audio game so I don't yet know what I don't know. Therein lies the allure of the Bottlehead building/modifying/learning process!

Kevin,

Seeing and hearing your Beepre in action at the Burning Amp fest. last Sunday just
got me more tweaked up in getting one to build! Hopefully soon before prices goes up..

Thanks for that!

HF9,

Thank you. Yes, speaker cables are Kimber cable 8-TC that I purchased used and connecterized by me.

Evan,

Thank you.  I installed all the upgrades during the build. Took my sweet time building it...so I can taste the experience longer..
FWIW I share Caucasian's sentiments when investing money on electronic upgrades (within reason).

Happy listening to you all!

Thank you all for your compliments... I look forward to building more BH kits in the near future...

Joel,

Very nice build, I love the knobs. How about bringing it to the next Burning Amp? We'll have an even bigger Bottlehead showing.

Cary,

Thanks.  I'll be more than glad to bring it on the next BA festival.

I got the wooden knobs from dknob.com (cocobolo wood).

Cheers!

Hi ffivaz,

Thank you.

Yes, I did some comparison listening - (Jacintha- "The girl from Bossa Nova" -180g/45rpm).

First thing I noticed is that the Psvane are quieter (hum is down to 0.6mv compared to Sovtek at 1.2mv).

The stock Sovtek 2A3 are good (especially w/vocals) but IMO the Psvane 2A3-T are just in a different league.
With the Psvane the music just comes alive with excellent PRAT (if you will). It conveys good vocal recordings as if the
performer is right in front of you on a microphone. The instruments are more pronounced (guitars are my favorites).
But I have to admitt that this is only the 2nd pair of 2A3s I have experienced.
On a side note-IMO- the Psvane 12AT7 has better sound dynamics than the stock & Mullard (from experience).

Cheers.

Joel
