Working on my Speedball!  The manual sates, "metalic face of the transistor facing the center of the PC board." My kit has mje350s without metalic plates. Is it correct to assume that the side opposite to the side with text (mje350 and some squiggles my old eyes cant make out) is the side that should face the center?  i.e. side with text facing outward, side with out facing inward. Just want to make sure before I screw it up.

Yes, the side that has the print would be the opposite of the side that usually has exposed metal. This is another one the victims of the parts famine of 2010. Our usual brand is out of stock for months, so we have switched to a slightly different looking transistor of the same type.
