Minimum Battery Voltage For The Quickie

I did a search on the forum for this question but could not find the answer. I am sure it is out there. So here is my question. If you measure the battery voltage topside at what voltage would you want to start thinking about replacing the batteries? I have played mine around 25 hours and still have close to 36 volts across the 9v string and 3v across the D cells. I know I am not close to thinking about changing them but thought it an interesting question.

Measure the D-cell voltage between the ends of the D cell, not from one end to ground - they are not grounded at either end. New cells will run around 1.56 volts. When they are down to 1.2 volts, they are tired, but because the Q draws so little high-voltage current, you can probably operate a bit lower, perhaps 1.1 volt(?)

For the high voltage, it should work acceptably down to 24 volts - at least 24v to 36v is the range I designed for.
