keeping toddlers out of tube stereo equipment

Just yesterday I was listening to a cd, and my 14 month old son took an interest in the Quickie after ignoring it for the last few months.  He walks around all the time now, and turns on and off anything electronic he can get his hands on (including my rotel cd player which is kinda expensive).  Yesterday, he decided to spin the d batteries while the Quickie was playing, making a crackling sound.  Is there any way to keep him out of it besides moving the Quickie to an inaccessible spot (both for me and him!).  Anybody else have a situation like this?  Thanks,

Dave

Electric fence, Tazer, pepper spray, cattle prod, etc. all work pretty well, but I just took the easy way out and moved the equipment out of reach.  ;)

Lol.  That could be tricky.  If I move it up high, one of the cats might knock it over..  Plus longer cable lengths.  I might try putting a fence around the whole thing, or maybe making a battery cover (although he'll prob go for the tubes next!)  Baby 1, Dad 0  8)

I have four kids from two to nine. I've thought all of them that my amps "burn" by slightly touching a power tube when they're very young. Not too much to inflict damage but enough to generate some pain. They never again get close to them and they enjoy them a lot after the experience since we listen to music and watch movies together all time. We have right now 15 pieces of BH gear "operating" at our home. And the 9 year old is now building his own tode.

Looks a bit small for a baby..

Ahahaahaha!! It is rare, but every now and then the Internet delivers gold.

Edit: I have seen a build where the owner made a small wooden "doghouse" type enclosure that went over the transformer. A cheap (and ugly) solution might be to make a small cover from 1/4" foam board. It would be extremely easy to cut and glue and would at least place the batteries out of sight.

IIRC there is room to mount all the batteries under the chassis.  In the early days Bottleheads often went for this "clean" look for the Quickie.

Hi Geary.
Electric fence, is that the same type the farmers use for their cows?
Tazer, the same type the police use for the uncooperative citizen?
Pepper spray. Ditto police.
What's cattle prod. ? ? ?
How about movement detector with a 120db alarm horn, would that be effective?

Hi Geary.
I am not familiar with the Quickie, because I don't own one yet, are those 6922 tubes really get that hot that a child could burn his pinkies?

The tubes are 3S4's in the Quickie, but they don't really get hot (or even light up)..  They just need to stay away from curious toddlers  :D

Yes, possibly to all of the above.  A cattle prod is a baton with electrodes on the end to deliver a a jarring shock.  Not necessarily restricted to cattle!  Of course pepper spray can also be what I put over most of my food...Tabasco, Siracha, etc.  ;)

Not sure I like the 120dB horn...I'm trying to save my hearing for old age!!

Geary

Um, am I on an ignore list?  Putting the batteries on the bottom is a little work but effective.
Hi Grainger49.
We really got off topic, didn't we ?
