I painted my crack white.....

Do you spot what I did differently on mine?

Finish- Alder base: Minwax "chestnut" stain, 5 coats Minwax wipe-on poly.

Finish - Top Plate: 2 Coats Rustoleum gloss white paint, coat of Rustoleum clear gloss lacquer

The little toggle switch lets me select between stock electrolytic output coupling caps and metalized polypropylene film caps.

Knob is machined aluminum with fine diagonal knurl by Kilo (sold by Digikey)

I seem to have lost the Bottlehead badge I bought, when it turns up I will put that on the front.

I'm fighting typing something that would sound rude (in reference to the thread title).  Your headphone amp looks very nice.  How is that for restraint?

I'm amazed at the grain others get from the base, mine always turn out pretty ugly.

Did you paint the transformer and end bell the same as the top plate?  Looks like it.

That is a neat idea!  Just as a matter of precaution, be sure there are 2.49k resistors from the output of both sets of caps to ground, just so the startup voltage can be sunk quickly on both sets.

Yes the transformer is all painted white.  I put a few coats of primer on the laminations with some sanding in between.  Gave them a bit more shine, the top surface of the laminations has a bit of a rough texture.  I imagine if you built up enough primer on the core you could make it altogether smooth.  I'd be wary of that much paint cracking under heat, though.

I used red glazing putty on mine. It is a automotive body filler. It dries really quick and sands smooth. It has been on my SEX amp for years without issue.
