Recently I noticed a 60 Watt Edison style bulb at one of the big hardware stores. It looked so cool I had to buy one. When I got it home I found it to be a bit brighter than I expected. I went online to see if there were any lower wattage versions and found a 30 watt "Radio Tube" style bulb!
Fast forward a day and while discussing this with a equally crazy audio buddy we started dreaming up lamp ideas. Then we were discussing the new Smash preamp and a light went on in my head. (Pun totally intended!)
The Unofficial Bottlehead-Inspired Table Lamp!
I took some time to order some parts and scrounge things up on the fly as my design was evolving in my head. In the end I found an inexpensive Shadow Box 8X10 frame made of reclaimed wood, a Hammond cover plate, and a couple of switch/dimmers to achieve the desired performance. I had an extra ST35 power transformer I wasn't using and decided to throw that in for maximum nerdness. (No, it's not connected.)
Here it is in action!
