First build - Crack

My first ever electronic build. Once I'd completed a couple of soldered joints I was away. Took my time over five or six afternoons for the plinth (first) and then plucked up the courage for the electronics. Pretty straight forward once I was organised. Lots of inspiration from Bottlehead, YouTube and the web. Slight concern over the final voltage check (UK 240V) but it turned out ok thanks to PB. Only issue is the on/off switch which has gone flimsy and is stuck on for some reason (a replacement is on it's way). Next up is Speedball but the PCB soldering does look fiddley.

Thanks for that. Although there is no visual damage seems I must have lingered too long. I'm guessing it's just a quick dab when soldering the Speedball components to the PCB.

This is true for the LED's, but everything else can tolerate quite a bit of cooking.  On the PCB's, when you put a little solder on the pad/joint, at some point you will see it kind of sink as the solder flows around the actual plating in the hole.  Once that has happened, your joint should be good.

Update:

Switch now replaced (thanks Eileen) and working ok.

I decided to go for the Speedball upgrade. Couldn't believe the tiny size of the joints on the pcb's 

Once I started there was something strangely satisfying watching that solder flow (good job I had a magnifying headset). Assembly of the pcb's went fine and then on to the crunch.

Hang on a minute, I've got a perfectly functioning head phone amplifier that looks and sounds great and I'm going to start chopping it about  :-\

Sod it, in with the snips.

That was this this morning. This evening I can't believe what I'm hearing.

Highs (pre Speedball) have the same fluidity, but now there's just an awesome body and presence to the sound. Fantastic.
