There's a lumberyard near my house that sells what they call "special" walnut at a discount - meaning there's usually some checks and knots and such. I always love raiding this pile because, despite their defects, you get some really amazing parts of the tree that have some incredible figure and voids. I found this board with a huge schism in the middle, and cut a couple of brass dovetail keys with a jigsaw and some files, routed them in, then handcut the dovetails and put them on some speaker spikes. I like the combination of the black brass and walnut, it seems to give them a retro but modern feel.
