Custom Crack

Finally finished my Crack last night.  The top is Honduras Rosewood burl, the legs are Gabon Ebony, and the inserts are Bocote.  I had a lot of problems with the paint flaking off the top plate, it was sand blasted, acid etched, uses epoxy primer, metal flake black paint, and top coat satin lacquer.  It is time to get a powder coat gun system, less than an hour and the painting process is finished and ready to be handled.  It took a week to finish the Cracks top plate, never again.  The large caps are Aerovox 52uf/250V left over from an original Foreplay build, there are four installed.  Pictures at the link listed below.  Thank you for looking.

Lee, beautiful wood!  That must have been a frustrating top plate.  My Seduction, my first Bottlehead build, got all kinds of dust in it and had to be sanded and repainted.

I think to put in a picture you bracket [] "IMG" and "/IMG" with the link to the picture between the two sets if brackets.  I went to your pictures, clicked on one, right clicked on the picture that came up and selected "Copy Imgae Location".

I got this:  http://lh6.ggpht.com/__2uyTsETJF0/TM-ZyBBC0cI/AAAAAAAAAFs/NxMuaXHZbow/s512/P1010660.JPG

You can give that a try.   It does work on Audio-Karma.  And IIRC it works here too.

Hi Granger, thanks for the information.  I am aware of how to do it in the forum, but with Internet Explorer when one right clicks the image there is nothing similiar to "Copy Image Location".  There is a "Copy Image Location" in Firefox and I was able to insert an image using Mozilla Firefox.  I would like to known "Now" how to do it using Internet Explorer 9.

Lee,

I have not used IE since a few years back.  Someone on the old forum suggested Firefox and I haven't looked back.

Hi Lee,

Gorgeous work, as always. Maybe try getting the URL for the picture by right clicking on it and copying the URL from Properties?

Hi Doc, thank you for the compliment.  I have tried your suggestion, in properties one can not copy the URL.  This is just another reason to switch to another browser.

Hi Steve, you have the skills, it is patience, experience and a Basement/Garage full of tools that helps a lot.  A friend and I were discussing this topic last night.  We were comparing my earlier Bottlehead gear and the most recent builds.  Earlier I had the experience and the tools but not the patience.

Hi Lee,

That build looks great!
Your photos are just what I needed to finally get off my ass and order this kit....

A few questions:

- Where did you get those sweet tube sockets and bases?
- Where did you get the volume knob and trim ring?
- Those look like the latest WBT RCA jacks, correct?

Mike

Thank you all for the nice compliments.

Mike the teflon sockets and cu/ag rca's are made by CMC (Yamamoto clones), make sure you get the tube socket PCB adapter, it makes soldering alot easier, besides they look cool.  I get them from ebay vendors.

The volume knob is from VT4C studio (vt4c.com), interesting site.

The brass trim rings I make myself, will add ventilation holes as on the Quickie when I can get the time, actually it is when I can remember to do the machining, have lots of time.
