Crowd sourcing recommendations: The Crack

I want to try something new. Folks constantly ask us what equipment works well with our gear. It’s impossible for us to listen to every combination, as much as we’d love to be able to, so I’m asking our community instead. We’ll start with an easy one: what are your favorite headphones to use with the Crack?

Old standbys like the Sennheiser HD6XX and 800S will be there, of course, but I’d love to hear what else will work.

I’ll go first: Recently I tried some ZMF Atriums and liked the sound.

Beyerdynamic DT 1770 PRO (MKI 250 Ohm) are a decent closed option with a few caveats. The bass is totally outta control (in a bad way) but can be largely tamed by putting a piece of electrical tape over nearly (but not all) of the vent hole.

Build quality, comfort and isolation are top notch IMO.

Important to note that a low impedance MKII version is out there now and wouldn't work well with the crack.

DT880 600 Ohms are the best pairing to Crack I have ever tried. Better then any Sennheiser or ZMF that I have compared with.

DT770 250 Ohms Pro also very close

Any experience with the DT990 600 ohms?

I have a pair of each. I preferred the open backs on initial testing but haven’t put enough time in to say that definitively. Now that we’re moved into the new house I’ll have to do a better comparison.
