Crack, Texas style...

I've finally had the chance to post some pics of my Crack (wow, that was a really odd thing to type....) and here it is.  I sanded and semi-polished the aluminum top plate.  Then I built the case for it using south Texas Mesquite.  I have absolutely fallen in love with Mesquite - it's exceptionally durable, strong, stable and in my opinion beautiful.  Check out the burl on the volume control.  Finish is three coats of hand rubbed Danish oil.  Headphones are Beyerdynamic DT990, 600 ohm version.  Enjoy

Very nicely done indeed! Yes mesquite is an awesome wood and VERY Texan. In my youth, we "chained" a lot of mesquite. It is great for the BBQ too.

BTW: chain clearing is when you take two bull dozers with a huge chain (think ship anchor) between them and just drive forward.

I want some of that wood!  I've been building things with Hickory lately and I love these woods with character to the grain.

Nice build!!

Wow! that is beautiful - Like Grainger, this is the first use of Mesquite I've seen.  I'll be looking to see if I can find some  up here in Canada.  I would guess a speciality shop would have it, but probably at 4x the cost you paid.

thanks for sharing.

Yes, very beautiful workmanship..... But, for that truly authentic Texas look and feel, shouldnt you put that puppy in the smoker for about 6 hours.....  that would be cool, the sound, look AND smell of Texas!!!  :)

I have to agree on the selection of species!  You may have seen my post: Topic: Foreplay III mesquite plinth.  (I wish I could figure out how to post the images in the body of the message.)

Maybe you could market the burled knob to some of us.

Regards from San Antonio.
