Cover on shunt regulator 12AU7 tube

Is it ok to use a similar tube socket / cover on the 12AU7 as are already in place for the other tubes?

Or would this introduce unwanted hum?

Yes, you can put a shield over it if you like.  The 12AU7 in the Eros runs pretty hot and doesn't otherwise benefit from the cover, so we don't use one there.

You can use an IERC tube cooler.  I use these on all of the tubes that can fit them.  They work and theoretically extend tube life by lowering the operating temperature.  Mostly I use them because I like the way they look :)

Yes, if you use an IERC tube shield on a socket without the bayonet base it will only be serving as a cooler, not a shield. It is designed to work with a bayonet base and needs to make electrical contact with the chassis thru the base to be effective as a shield.

Thanks for all the replies as always.

During assembly this plan  was scrapped. Unfortunately the covers that originally came with the Mainline (the one i planned to use as a fourth), were a different build from the ones provided with the Eros.

So. No cover today.
Awkward angled picture attached.

The plate finish looks.
I gotta' say the vents around the tube sockets and the RCA jacks on the 2 really make the kit look as premium as it is.

I couldn’t agree more. These would look good on every Bottlehead kit.

It looks great!  Enjoy!

Thanks! I do enjoy the build of all Bottlehead kits. Last few weekends I worked on some Cracks.
I cannot listen to the Eros just yet. Will finish it later this week.
