clear coating bell

Hello all! I just received my crack kit, and am wondering how to apply a clear coat on the bell while retaining the shine of the steel? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Clean the cover with your solvent of choice (alcohol or acetone are what I tend to use), then after the solvent has evaporated, clear coat it with clear lacquer.  This lacquer should just say lacquer on the can, not polyurethane, nor acrylic, just straight lacquer. 

Let the lacquer dry in the sun for a few hours, or overnight in a bathroom with the fan on.

Yeah, I concur with PB regarding acrylic lacquer, Don't ask me how but I know, I especially feel like a jerk as I have a partial can of nitro cellulous lacquer for stringed instruments and was to lazy to buy a Preval cannister to apply, argh. Nitro lacquer is impossible to find in a hardware store by me. It is available online.

Ace hardware used to carry rattle can clear nitro lacquer. Dunno if they still do.
