Chassis alignment question

Can experienced SEX builders let me know if there are any specific traps to watch out for if I build my SEX kit with the chassis plate shiny-side up?

The only component I can see that will be directly effected is the volume pot because the alignment slot is now on the other side. Anything I'm missing?

You wont' be able to build the power supply as-specified in the manual.

The headphone jack, power switch, IEC socket, and RCA jacks will all switch sides (so our standard right angle power cord upgrade will face the wrong way unless you also flip the IEC socket).

You can sand down the brushed side of the plate and polish it.

Thanks CB - it's already been anodised though so I can't sand and polish.

When you say I can't build the power supply as specified, is it just a matter of having to modify wiring lengths, etc.

From what I can tell, the terminal strip #C1-5 can be located correctly as can the chokes and OTs so the things that will be mis-aligned with the transformer are:

  • IEC terminal
  • Power switch
  • Terminal strip #1-5

If I adjust cable lengths and stick closely to the point-to-point numbers will everything be OK?

It's not too late to use the brushed side, but I think the smooth side looks better

You'll need to mirror the offset hole for one of the power supply terminal strips.

Yes, building the 6.3V power suply will be a complete pain...

Meaning I need to make a new one or just treat it in reverse? (i.e. number 5-1 from left to right)

Make a new one.

(The 6.3V supply is doable, it may bump up against the IEC socket, I'm not 100% sure either way)

Thanks Paul. I think for the marginal difference in looks I might just use the correct (brushed) side of the chassis plate.

Thanks for your help and patience with my questions!
