Beatles Remasters: Opinions?

I have done some simple A-B testing with my buddy's copy of the new Remastered Sgt Peppers CD against my original press Mono and an Apple label stereo LP, as well as a standard CD copy. I have to say, I'm pretty impressed, but my phono setup right now is pretty simple (read: lame). To me it feels like the layers of instruments and backing tracks are much clearer and can be easily identified. It's almost like the people who did this were trying to minimize their footprint, just do as much as possible while being discreet.

Anybody else have any thoughts/opinions/hopes/aspirations on the subject?

When The Beatles (White Album) was first released on CD there was a bad joke circulating.  "Charles Manson said today that he listened to the CD of The Beatles and he was wrong, they weren't saying, "Kill them all."

The CDs were remastered and are much clearer now.  They don't compare as well to the original pressings on LP because of a number of physical things.  But the ones I have are a big step up from the other CD releases.

You should keep in mind that the mono and stereo mixes of the Beatles albums are not comparable since they were truly different mixes from the master tapes.

Hmmm, noted. I'm just happy i have the remaster now instead of the terrible mp3 I've listening to for 3 years now. He has the White Album too, and it blows my regular CD out the window. It's amazing.
