Balance Pot vs Volume Pot

I was wondering if the balance pot and the volume pot are the same device. For example, if I wanted to replace the balance pot with another ALPS Blue Velvet potentiometer - would that work?

They are NOT the same. But ALPS does make a balance pot, in the same RK27 line as the volume pot.
