I just finished building my Quickie on a clear top plate.
I used 2 X 6S1P A123 (39.6 volts) 2300mAh for the HV and 2 X 9.5Ah D cell Imedion Nimh for the filaments.
Alps pot, Elna Cerafine bypass caps, Clarity ESA output caps.
Thanks.
Yup, it's made of plexi-glass I got from Home Depot, same size. I was going to use the aluminum plate but was worried of microphonic issue. It's still microphonic though.
Hi Eric, the layout is almost the same as the stock quickie except for single pair of input. The "orb" you meant is just probably a reflection from the camera flash.
The second of the Quickies we built was done on transparent red acrylic, and it was a bit of a challenge to keep everything off the back of the plate while building (leads, rosin, etc).
Yah, you can't go anywhere near an airport with that! The style of build you chose gives a sturdy look. I'm heading that direction with my next build. The metal enclosure provides a bit of shielding and that is a good thing in this age of wireless/wavemore.
