180 degree Beepre

2 years ago I build the Beepre. Although I like the amp very much I had trouble with to much noise. When the volume was down the noise was not to bad, but turning up the volume the noise became louder.
It didn't help either that I've 114dB hornspeakers.
Then I thought, why not bring the output of the tubes closer by the inputs, inputselector and potentiometer. Here's the result. The level of noise became lower. It doesn't get louder when turning the volume completly open. And last but not least, the sound quality got better!
I used an Seiden input selector, TKD potentiometer and Amtrans wire.
Although I'm happy with the result I like to get the level of noise more down. Has anyone an sugestion?

But you'd better give some lateral support to the top plate because it's flexing in the middle!

While I am sure you have experimented with different tubes, I am wondering if the tube choice and selection could reduce the noise level further.

What type of noise are you referring to?

Hi Aaron,

I refer to white noise. Luckily there's hardly any hum.

I use Mulard tubes for the power supply and Golden Lion 300b's.

It sounds like you need to pad the input of your amp, unless the amp itself is making the noise.

I was thinking the same. I'm using the Paramount amps with 2A3 tubes (they are silent).But the combo Beepre /Paramounts has far to much gain for my 114 dB speakers.

Do you have an sugestion how much the dB pad should be and which resistor value I should choose?

Zooming in on the picture from from your previous post, I cannot see the drain wires on the CAT-5 cable. Can you point to where they were grounded?

Hi Joshua,

The cat cables were grounded at the orginal post. Just under the potentiometer and imput selector.
